9/11, Not an Event Permitting Revenge to Take Control of a Disciple of Christ

I listened to Father John Picinic's Homily Sunday on a point concerning 9/11 breeding vengefulness. I thought of Dietrich Bonhoeffer; especially based on the part of Apostle Paul letter to the Romans that was the second reading during the Mass. Acting out of a sense of revenge is death to the disciple of Christ, DB's famous "cost of discipleship". Pure, willing surrender to great evil is demanded, as Christ's unique type of total victory is thereby insured. DB left the U.S. and returned to native Germany and opposed the Nazi's; he was jailed and prayed for his captors while presenting as a contented man; they hung him in the last days before Berlin fell. A true Martyr's death.
